DESCRIPTION:The Borinqueneers Park Education Alliance\, in collaboration with its partners the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey and the New Jersey State Veterans Chamber of Commerce\, will honor Hispanic Heritage Month by presenting the award-winning PBS Documentary THE BORINQUENEERS at a Film Screening Fundraiser at the Barrymore Film Center and Museum in Fort Lee\, NJ on Saturday\, September 21\, 2024.\n\n \n\nDuring the event\, the Alliance and the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey will present the "Caballero Award" to actor David Zayas. This award recognizes individuals who demonstrate extraordinary dedication\, kindness\, and service to the community. David Zayas\, an acclaimed actor\, and Air Force veteran is celebrated for his consistent commitment to giving back to the community. His work\, both on and off the screen\, embodies the principles of service\, compassion\, and leadership that the Caballero Award honors.\n\n \n\nNarrated by actor Hector Elizondo\, the PBS Documentary Film explores the courageous stories of triumph and struggle of the men of the US 65th Infantry Regiment\, the only Hispanic-segregated unit in US Army History. Through rare archival materials and compelling interviews with veterans\, commanding officers\, and historians\, the film screening will be in commemoration of  the 125th Anniversary of the Regiment (1899-2024). Filmmaker Noemi Figueroa Soulet will be in attendance to present the documentary.\n\n \n\nThe Borinqueneers Park Education Alliance\, a New Jersey Non-Profit Corporation\, aims to honor and educate the public about the regiment's heroic deeds during the Korean Conflict\, for which they were awarded a Congressional Gold Medal.
